Take a look at the updated Big 12 Tournament bracket after the first round of play Wednesday night.
While the first round of most conference basketball tournaments can be a snooze, there were some solid matchups on Wednesday night for the Big 12. Opening up with two evening matchups between the conference’s bottom four seeds, there was some solid action.
The first game of the night featured a matchup between No. 8 seed Kansas State vs. No. 9 Oklahoma State. Obviously, the fact that they’re both at the bottom of the conference standings shows they didn’t have quite the seasons they were expecting.
However, the Wildcats came out firing, taking a 40-23 lead into halftime. It’s odd to see both these teams struggling, but that’s just how this year has gone. Oklahoma State nearly made a miraculous second-half comeback, but fell just short, 75-71.
Surprisingly improved No. 7 Texas Tech faced off against the league’s bottom-dweller, No. 10 TCU, on Wednesday as well to close out the first round. The game was back and force until the final seconds as the Horned Frogs pulled off the impressive upset, 67-62. Everyone assumed Tubby Smith’s Red Raiders would run away with the win, but that wasn’t the case.
