A look at the updated Big East Tournament bracket after the first round games

With March Madness and the 2016 NCAA Tournament just around the corner, conference tournaments are in full swing. Not only does this determine the automatic bids, but it also give many teams from the power conferences to build their resumes for the Big Dance in the midnight hour of the season. There’s no question that there are several teams in the 2016 Big East Tournament looking to do just that.

Two teams that certainly would’ve needed to win the Big East Tournament to go dancing kicked off the first round action on Wednesday as the DePaul Blue Demons took on the Georgetown Hoyas. The Hoyas made quick work of DePaul behind a big game from their star in D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and moved onto Thursday’s quarterfinals where they have an unfriendly matchup in the form of the No. 1 seeded Villanova Wildcats awaiting them.

The other first round game on Wednesday featured the underachieving Marquette Golden Eagles taking on the lowly St. John’s Red Storm—the Red Storm won just one Big East game in the regular season. Marquette and Henry Ellenson, playing in his first Big East Tournament, also rolled in their matchup as they moved onto the quarterfinals to try and secure a berth in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, be it at-large or via auto-bid.

Now that we’re officially moving to the quarterfinals, let’s take a look at the updated 2016 Big East Tournament bracket after the first round games. For a printable version of the updated bracket, just click on the picture and you’ll be all set.
