1. He was benched for Blaine Gabbert

Gabbert may have looked like a respectable quarterback at times for the 49ers, but it was not too long ago that he was considered to be one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. He struggled mightily after being drafted in the first round by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they have already admitted their mistake in drafting him and moved on with Blake Bortles.

Kaepernick was benched by the 49ers in the middle of the season for Gabbert, and Gabbert’s past abysmal play is the only reason that he even had a chance to keep a hold on his starting job before losing it.

No quarterback who has been benched for one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history should have a chance taken on him, albeit by a team looking to defend their Super Bowl championship. Although the Broncos defense would enable Kaepernick to win more games than he did with the 49ers last season, it is hard to trust a quarterback that quickly lost the trust of his team.

It will also be hard for the Broncos to repeat their defensive performance, in which case Kaepernick would be tasked with elevating the Broncos’ offensive production.
