Jordan Speith hits back at ‘garbage’ comment

Jordan Spieth has hit back at a internet critic who labelled him ‘garbage’ after recuperating to make the cut at the Valspar Championship.

2016 certainly hasn’t been the year that Jordan Spieth would have been hoping for so far. While he utterly dominated 2015, winning two of the four majors and coming very close to completing the grand slam, his form this year has been far from his robotic, mechanical best just six months ago. His drop in form has been noticed by fans and pundits alike, leading some trolls to publicly criticize the world number one on Instagram.

During the Valspar Championship in Florida, some have commented on Spieth’s Instagram account describing his play as “very average”. However, after a good performance on Friday, where Spieth made five birdies and two bogeys to make the cut, the American golfer responded in bullish fashion. Spieth replied:

"“Couldn’t be further from the truth troll. Go do research before hating. Today was all about the cut. I actually did pretty well to make six [at the first hole]. I thought it was really strong what we did after that. For the first 20 holes to be at six over and we finished at two over, [there are] only positives going forward.”"

The upturn in form is good news for Spieth and his fans, who were beginning to become slightly concerned with his recent performances. With a huge year of golf coming up, including the Ryder Cup  in October, Spieth will be hoping to assert himself as the undoubted world number one. The only way to do such a thing is to dispel his doubters by performing out on the course.
