Michigan Wolverines vs No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers

Heading into the Big Ten Tournament, the Michigan Wolverines’ chances of making the NCAA Tournament were slim. With a 20-11 record, Michigan found a way to beat Northwestern in the second round, in overtime, and then No. 1 seed Indiana in the quarterfinals thanks to a buzzer-beater from lightly-used Kameron Chatman. Michigan will be dancing on Sunday.

John Beilein’s team will be playing with some extra confidence after taking down the league’s top team on Friday as Derrick Walton Jr. will continue to play solid ball, leading the way for the Wolverines. Walton Jr. was an assist machine on Friday and he averages 4.2 on the year to go along with 11.9 points. Zak Irvin and Duncan Robinson will be key factors in Saturday’s game as well.

Purdue is playing as well as any team in the conference right now, winning four games in a row and absolutely thrashing Illinois to open their conference tourney action Friday. The Boilermakers will present a tough test to Michigan since the Wolverines aren’t used to playing against such elite post players like the ones Purdue features.

One elite big man is senior forward/center A.J. Hammons who is averaging a team-high 14.8 points to go along with 7.8 rebounds all while shooting 59 percent from the field. Caleb Swanigan, a freshman, is playing great, too. He’s averaging 10.4 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 46 percent and Isaac Haas is putting up 9.8 points and 3.9 boards.
