NFL Draft 2016: Browns, Panthers and Steelers interested in Dak Prescott
According to a report, the Browns, Panthers and Steelers are interested in Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott.
The annual NFL Scouting Combine is over and the 2016 NFL Draft is drawing near, where teams will look to add the next wave of talent to their rosters. Between now and then, plenty of colleges will be holding pro days featuring their best players going through a variety of drills for NFL teams.
On Thursday, Mississippi State held a pro day for their plethora of draft prospects for scouts to check out and there was one prospect in particular that teams were interested in. Quarterback Dak Prescott is seen as intriguing prospect heading into the 2016 NFL Draft and while he might not be talked among the top quarterbacks in the draft, he has the traits that coaches love in a quarterback.
According to NFL.com’s Path to the Draft, there were three teams in particular that really paid close attention to Prescott. Those teams were the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The article states that the Browns really put Prescott through a mental examination, while the Steelers had him run basic drills and the Panthers had him throw certain routes. Off the bat, Prescott certainly makes sense for each of those teams for different reasons.
Wherever he ends up, Prescott isn’t going to come in to a team as the starter. He’s going to sit for a while and develop as a project quarterback. The Browns certainly don’t have an answer at the quarterback spot right now, but having one they can let simmer under Hue Jackson could be beneficial.
The Steelers have Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones behind him, but finding another potential backup option for the future could serve them as well to learn in the Pittsburgh system. The Panthers are set for the future with MVP quarterback Cam Newton, but they could soon be looking for a quarterback more in the mold of Cam Newton that could come in as a backup with Derek Anderson getting older.
Regardless of who is showing more interest than others, Prescott is a talent that will have many teams evaluating him thoroughly leading up to the draft.
