NFL Rumors: DeMarcus Ware restructures contract with Broncos
The Broncos apparently restructered the deal of star defensive player DeMarcus Ware for the upcoming season.
While the offseason only began a few days ago, it’s safe to say the 2016 Denver Broncos won’t look like the Super Bowl 50 roster.
It has been a tumultuous week for the Broncos. They lost future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning to retirement. Brock Osweiler, who was being groomed to replace Manning, bolted for the Houston Texans and top-5 quarterback money. Star defensive lineman Malik Jackson went to Jacksonville for about $90 million and running back CJ Anderson may leave for the Dolphins.
While many expect the Broncos to be fine based on the work executive John Elway has done with the team, it’s a lot of holes to fill for the upcoming season. Money has to be freed to take on new players and the team has to draft wisely.
While the draft hasn’t taken place yet, it looks like the Broncos are opening up space in their salary cap to acquire new players.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, linebacker DeMarcus Ware is restructuring his contract with Denver.
This should allow the Broncos to possibly pursue whatever is left of the free agency pool to replace their lost players. They will need help at crucial positions with the obvious one being at quarterback. They may need to pay someone a fair amount of money given the rising prices for a signal caller, so this contract restructing could help.
