While it sadly did not count, the radio call for Buddy Hield’s shot on Friday was awesomeness
Saturday night in the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, we were literally treated to the definition of March Madness. With the Oklahoma Sooners down 69-67 and time running down, one of the best players in the nation stepped up about as big as you can get. Buddy Hield launched a half-court shot that went in, sending everyone into a frenzy and Oklahoma to the final on Saturday against Kansas.
Well … or so we thought. After further review, Hield ultimately didn’t get the shot off in time, propelling West Virginia to the conference tournament final instead and Oklahoma fans home sad.
Still, though, it doesn’t take away the fact that the shot was amazing, and had it been a split-second sooner, Oklahoma would be playing on Saturday. What may have been even more amazing, however, was the radio call from the Oklahoma broadcast team, which was truly just a thing of beauty.
I mean, that almost makes you wish the bucket did count, because that call was simply perfect.
In the end, though, it did not and now Oklahoma fans and Hield are wondering what could have been.
