NCAA releases statement on leaked March Madness bracket

The NCAA has released a statement about the March Madness bracket leaking on Selection Sunday

One of the beautiful things about Selection Sunday kicking off March Madness and the NCAA Tournament is the fact that it’s one of the few things left in sports that has real mystery to it. Outside of the committee picking the 68 teams that will make up the field, no one knows what teams made the tournament and where they are seeded until the NCAA’s partners reveal it. However, that mystery was compromised as the bracket was leaked before the entire thing was done being announced.

In fact, the leaked bracket was so prevalent that Randy Bennett, the head coach of the Saint Mary’s Gaels, found out that his team wasn’t in the tournament by way of the leak.

As you’d expect considering how secretive that the NCAA likes to keep the bracket every year, that it leaked this year obviously rubs them the wrong way. As such, the organization released a statement on Sunday evening to address the leak.

For once, you have to kind of sympathize with the NCAA here. Yes, this year’s coverage was quite a disaster and the leaked bracket was the cherry on top. However, you have to wonder how something like this actually happens. Was it a disgruntled employee for CBS? Was it a crooked member of the selection committee? Whoever it was, hopefully the NCAA finds them and reprimands them so that the mystery that we all admittedly love can remain in-tact in the future.
