Colin Kaepernick might have lost interest in playing for the Cleveland Browns after they lost so much talent in free agency.
In the days leading up to free agency, Colin Kaepernick’s name started coming up in potential trade talks with the Broncos, Jets and Browns and those rumors only intensified after free agency opened.
The Broncos still have interest after losing both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, and the Jets may be leaning towards Robert Griffin III — leaving the Browns as frontrunners. Cleveland was such a frontrunner that it was reported that Kaepernick was willing to accept a trade and play for the Browns.
Then free agency opened and the Browns went full Cleveland.
According to Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee, Kaepernick’s mind might have changed since the Browns gutted themselves of talent in free agency.
You can’t blame Kaepernick for maybe changing his mind about not wanting to play for Cleveland anymore given how much they lost in free agency. Not only was it a loss of talent — specifically on offense — but the free agency purge shows that the Browns really haven’t changed in any way.
In addition to losing two pillars on the offensive line that would have protected Kaepernick, as well as losing a top wide receiver, the Browns are as dysfunctional as ever. Kaepernick may not be in a position to get snooty about where he wants to play in 2016, but no one deserves to be banished to Cleveland — especially willingly.
