No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers vs No. 2 Michigan State Spartans
Purdue is a dangerous team right now. Winners of five straight games, the Boilermakers took down Illinois by 31 points and then Michigan by 17 to advance to their first Big Ten Tournament final since 2009. Matt Painter’s team is nearly unstoppable in the post and that has led to their 26-7 overall record and potential top-three seed come Sunday night.

The aforementioned Boilermakers have incredible size with A.J. Hammons leading the way down low. The senior big man is leading the team with 14.7 points to go along with 7.8 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field. Freshman Caleb Swanigan leads the Boilers with 8.4 rebounds and puts up 10.5 points per game. Big Isaac Haas is averaging 10.0 points and 3.8 boards.
Many are picking Michigan State to be the national champion this year, but the Spartans need to prove that they can beat top teams handily, unlike they did on Saturday afternoon. Tom Izzo’s Spartans had a tough time with No. 18 Maryland, albeit the Terrapins are loaded with talent, but avenging an earlier loss against Purdue in comfortable fashion will give them a one-seed.
Everyone around college basketball knows the name Denzel Valentine because of his strong national player of the year campaign he has put forth. As a finalist along with Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, the Spartan senior is averaging 19.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game. Watch out for Bryn Forbes and Eron Harris, too; they are three-point threats.
