Selection Sunday 2016: March Madness field set today
By Jack Crosby
Now that the conference tournaments are coming to a close, Selection Sunday will show us the March Madness field for 2016
This college basketball season was literally one of the wildest that we have seen in recent memory. There was not really one team that wanted to show themselves as elite, and because of that, everyone was trying to figure out who the top team in the game really is. Eventually, with the NCAA Tournament just about here, we’re going to find out a definitive answer to that, and Selection Sunday will give us our first look.
While there are still a few conference tournaments games to be played in the SEC, American and Big Ten conferences, really everything is out of the way. On Sunday evening, with all of this out of the way, we will be finding out who is in the field for the NCAA Tournament.
Of course, the top-tier teams will be in there such as the ACC Champion North Carolina Tar Heels and Big 12 Champion Kansas Jayhawks, but there, as usual, are still the questions of whether or not the bubble teams will be getting in. You know, like the Michigans of the world, a team that had an up-and-down season, made a nice run in the Big Ten Tournament but just couldn’t get the complete job done?
For the last few weeks now, especially this past week, we’ve all been talking about RPI and KenPom rankings, but come Sunday night, that will all go out the window because we’re going to learn who will be in the complete field of 68 teams.
And if you need a good look at who might be in or out some Sunday, here’s a look at the latest bracket from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.
You can catch all the action of Selection Sunday live on CBS after the conference tournament games are over and it starts at
