Midwest Region: Kansas Jayhawks

The Kansas Jayhawks won the Big 12 in the regular season and then proceeded to run through the 2016 Big 12 Tournament and take the crown there as well. They enter Selection Sunday 2016 as the No. 1-ranked teams in the national polls and rightfully so. With the Big 12 Tournament title now to their credit, there’s almost no way that Kansas isn’t the No. 1-overall seed for March Madness.

What’s not to love about what the Jayhawks did this season. They finished the year with an impressive 30-4 in the regular season, despite playing the ninth toughest schedule in college basketball (per ESPN). Moreover, going 15-3 in the regular season in conference play in one of the toughest conferences top-to-bottom in college basketball certainly works in their favor as well. Throw in the fact that Kansas has now won 14 consecutive games (including the Big 12 Tournament) coming into Selection Sunday.

With Perry Ellis being the consistent rock in the Jayhawks frontcourt and Wayne Selden and Devonte’ Graham seemingly starting to hit their strides at just the right time for the Jayhawks, this team looks like the favorites to be cutting down the nets in Houston on the first weekend of April. Before that happens, though, expect them to be named the top-seed for the 2016 NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday.
