2016 NCAA Tournament: Midwest Region Capsule

The brackets are unveiled! Let the games begin!

More from College Basketball Odds

For those of you that do the bracket games, I will unveil all of my picks by Wednesday night. For those of you that play the round by round games, I will also put my picks out there after every round as well. There will be something for everyone!

In the preview, I will give you a favorite, and dark horse team, which would be a four seed or higher than could win the region. A team to watch for, overseeded and underseeded teams, and of course, a double digit seed most likely to win one or more games.

We will get started with the Midwest regional.

Favorite: Virginia. Congratulations on your number one seed, Virginia. Your reward? The most dangerous two seed in a regional location that is much closer to East Lansing than Charlottesville.

Watch out for: Michigan State. The Spartans are peaking in March yet again, and with all due respect to number one seed Virginia, the Spartans should have been a one seed anyway. And honestly, they have an easier road than the Cavaliers do to the regional final.

Dark Horse: Iowa State. This is a very dangerous team. They beat Kansas and Oklahoma this year, and could be underseeded on the four line. Iona is going to give them a fight, but if they get past that, they have a great chance to knock off Purdue and Virginia.

Begging To Be Upset: Utah. Being punished by Oregon in the Pac 12 Championship game wasn’t a fluke. The Ducks gave everyone a blueprint on how to beat Utah. I have my doubts that Fresno can do it, but the winner of the Seton Hall-Gonzaga matchup sure can.

Overseeded: Syracuse: They shouldn’t even be in, let alone not having to play in. They are in on name alone. Period.

Underseeded: Seton Hall: This is a travesty. The Hall won the Big East tournament, and had a good body of work this year. They should have been at least a five, if not a four. So not only do they get grossly underseeded, but they have to play the best double digit seed in the tournament. That seems fair….

Cinderella: Gonzaga. The Zags as an 11 is just a joke. They should have been at least a ten, if not higher. Now, they get a six seed that is arguably better than any of the fives out there, but Gonzaga matches up well with Seton Hall. And Utah. A sweet sixteen berth is a strong bet.
