Ben Simmons does not deserve to be the first pick in this year’s NBA Draft

It seems as if it’s been a foregone conclusion all season long that LSU star Ben Simmons would be the first pick of this year’s NBA Draft. After a disappointing finish to his season with the Tigers, Simmons deserves to drop out of the draft’s No. 1 position.

Contrary to what most believe, Simmons hasn’t had things easy at LSU this season. He’s been a marked man for a team that suffers from below-average coaching and isn’t blessed with tremendous overall talent. It’s not the ideal incubator to develop one of college basketball’s most talented stars.

Even giving him the benefit of the doubt, his performance this season has been a huge disappointment. His prodigious talent didn’t even allow him to haul his team into the NCAA Tournament. Instead, their season ended with a hideous 71-38 loss to Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament semifinal. The performance, or lack thereof, was a fitting end to a poor season for Simmons in Baton Rouge.

Simmons will want to put his sub-par college career behind him as he prepares himself for the NBA. Unfortunately for the Australian star, NBA personnel got to witness his struggles in the SEC and it’s jeopardized his status as the draft’s best prospect. Here are five reasons why Simmons should not be the first pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
