Weakest Seed: No. 7 Oregon State

As mentioned before, it’s a miracle that the selection committee was nice enough to award the Oregon State Beavers with the No. 7 seed in the West Region. While the team finished with 19 wins, they have one good player and they aren’t very good after that.

The team can’t score, they can’t rebound and their defense is okay at best. How they managed to get to this point speaks to the talent of Gary Payton II. The problem for Oregon State is that by getting the No. 7 seed, they are going to have to face a very good No. 10 VCU Rams in their first game.

The Rams’ strengths are great defense and putting the pressure on opponents. For a team that has enough trouble scoring the basketball and grabbing rebounds like Oregon State, they could be one and done very quickly on Friday in Oklahoma City. The team, simply put, is going to need someone other than Payton to step up and help pick up the slack on the floor.

If by some chance they’re lucky enough to pull out a win against VCU, then they will have a major problem on their hands, as they will have a likely matchup with No. 2 Oklahoma right after.
