Stephen A. Smith thinks Peyton Manning should join ‘the family’ and work on Monday Night Football.
The NFL career of Peyton Manning seems to be over, as the quarterback has played his last game ever — which is still a concept that is foreign to people. Count Skip Bayless among those who aren’t ready to watch The Sheriff turn in his badge just yet. Payless mildly believes that the current state of the Broncos quarterback situation might coax Manning out of retirement and get him to play one more year.
That’s something that Stephen A. Smith isn’t willing to subscribe to in the least bit. In fact, Stephen A has another idea about what Manning should do in his retirement.
Smith said on First Take that he hopes Manning joins ‘the family’ at ESPN, even suggesting that he join the Monday Night Football booth team.
Either way, Smith is not buying the notion that Manning is ever going to play in the NFL ever again, even if the Broncos are hurting badly for a quarterback. While most of the things that he says are loud and lacking of general logic — this makes sense. Manning isn’t the most poetically gifted human being ever, but he’s a crowd pleaser and a figure that NFL fans love to identify with.
He doesn’t need to be a genius in the booth, he just needs to be there saying things. That’s what so many other commentators over the years have done and there’s no reason why Manning can’t take his prestigious name and pair it with the MNF brand.
