Connor Carrick puts in rebound for first goal with Maple Leafs
Connor Carrick had a golden opportunity on a rebound and didn’t miss for his first goal with the Maple Leafs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs made a huge deal before the NHL trade deadline when they sent Daniel Winnik to the Washington Capitals for Brooks Laich and a second round pick. Also included in the trade was Capitals blue line prospect Connor Carrick, who had a cup of coffee with the Caps during the 2013-2014 season (34 games played) and the 2015-2016 season (three games played). Toronto thought quite highly of Carrick and insisted that he be involved in the trade. Against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Carrick showed why Toronto thought so highly of him.
"Connor Carrick has his first with the Buds. Catch, place, fire it home. #TBLvsTOR https://t.co/QX872jcmHN— NHL (@NHL) March 16, 2016"
Carrick got a golden opportunity thanks to a beautiful cycle from teammates Colin Greening and Peter Holland. He has made his career around his ability to pinch in the offensive zone and that’s the kind of play that Carrick can make to justify his tendency to jump up in the offensive zone.

That was Carrick’s second career goal, as he scored one with the Capitals in his second NHL game. Carrick now has three points (one goal and two assists) in nine games with the Maple Leafs.
