LeBron James is taking sides in Tuesday’s NIT opening game showdown between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Akron Zips.

LeBron James has made it clear that he represents his hometown of Akron, Ohio with more pride than anyone may have for the place they were raised. At the same time, King James has also made it clear that he is a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, having said previously he would have played for the school and regularly attending football games during both stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

It is almost as if the committee selecting the National Invitational Tournament was just trying to test LeBron, as they pitted the Buckeyes with the Akron Zips for the opening round of this year’s tournament, tipping off Tuesday night. James was asked about the game and if he had a rooting interest.

Perhaps showing a LeBron 2.0 that isn’t afraid to say the wrong thing or alienate a certain group of shoppers for his product, James did pick a side and chose the one that will make it easy for him to go home when he wants:

LeBron James has added reason to root for the Zips, who are coached by his old high school head coach, Keith Dambrot. With the Cavaliers off on Tuesday and playing at home on Wednesday, one has to wonder of James and friends will make the 141 miles trip from Cleveland down to Columbus for tonight’s game.
