NCAA Tournament 2016: Picking the field by mascots
East Region – First Round
No. 16 Farleigh Dickinson Knights over No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels
After the Knight gets past the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, taking down an ill-armored forager in the pine forests of North Carolina would be an easy task.
No. 8 USC Trojans over No. 9 Providence Friars
When you have a solider in a Trojan going up against a docile man of the cloth, the Trojan has a distinct advantage of the highest kind.
No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers over No. 12 Chattanooga Mocs
Though the Hoosiers don’t have an advantage over many mascots considering they’re just Indiana natives, but a Moc (short for Mockingbird) has even less of a chance.
No. 13 Stony Brook Seawolves over No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats
A Seawolf, a mythical, fictional creature, just seems way too intimidating to fall to a Wildcat here. Seawolves advance.
No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish over No. 11 Michigan Wolverines
The Wolverines get out of the First Four because a Tulsa Golden Hurricane is another mascot that can’t fight. However, a Wolverine sounds a lot tougher than it actually is and a fighting human being has the upper hand.
No. 3 West Virginia Mountaineers over No. 14 Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks
This is an interesting matchup as Lumberjacks and Mountaineers aren’t exactly dissimilar. However, I imagine a Lumberjack with an ax and a Mountaineer with a gun of some sort. Advantage goes to the one with the firearm.
No. 10 Pittsburgh Panthers over No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers
This one is pretty simple as a Panther is going to overcome a Badger almost every single time.
No. 2 Xavier Musketeers over No. 15 Weber State Wildcats
Though some might give the advantage to a Wildcat here, a Musketeer is a master of the sword and should be able to use that deftness and their weapon to get past the Wildcats.
