6. Raiders sign OL Kelechi Osemele

Contract: 5 years and $58.5 million $25.4 million guaranteed

This is an interesting signing for a few reasons. One, Osemele is getting paid like a left tackle, but he has played guard for most of his career with the Ravens. Osemele has been an excellent guard and when he filled in at left tackle due to injury this year he performed well.

The risk here is that the Raiders are giving a guy left tackle money when he has only played a handful of games at the position. They are counting on him to make the transition to left tackle permanently. Otherwise they have an overpaid guard on their hands.

Osemele has shown throughout his career that he is talented and versatile. Assuming he makes the transition to left tackle, this is a great signing. If he doesn’t, it is still OK. Derek Carr now has an upgraded piece on the O-line that will give him more time in the pocket and help his development. Additionally, the Raiders are a team with a ton of unused cap space. Even if Osemele ends up playing guard and being overpaid, the Raiders had to spend that money anyway.
