Sony announced the Playstation VR at a keynote on Tuesday, but what is it and how much will it cost?
The world of electronics is always shifting, as Apple’s keynote speeches have become something that even the most casual tech-user knows about. If you’re thinking about getting a new iPhone and it’s within three or four months of October, you’re probably best off waiting.
But other companies are starting to roll out next-gen technology and Sony is trying to get ahead of the game in a market that has yet to be cornered. That market is the virtual reality headsets and they’re starting to boom in a big way.
Already companies like HTC have gotten in on the virtual headset game and Sony is not only entering the ring but are going hard in the paint with their strategy to corner the market. Sony announced on Tuesday that the Playstation VR will run a crisp $399 — which is hundreds of dollars less than what is currently out there as competition.
Here are some more details on the tech specs on the Playstation VR:
"PS VR will come with a 5.7 OLED screen with a combined resolution of 1920 x RGB x 1080 pixels, which equals 960 x RGB x 1080 pixels per eye. The screen will feature a 120 Hz refresh rate, about field of view of 100 degrees and less than 18 ms latency."
Right now there isn’t a pre-order date for the Playstation VR, but we can probably expect an announcement in the coming months. This seems like the type of tech release that will come around Thanksgiving and Christmas, as to capitalize on the shopping craze that time of year and to make sure that the VR is something that everyone has on their list of things to get.
