Full highlights, recap, and results from Lucha Underground Season 2, Episode 8

Lucha Underground is arguably the best pro wrestling show on TV right now and things have only been getting better with each passing week. With a match for the Lucha Underground Championship for the second consecutive week on Lucha Underground Season 2, Episode 8, that upward trend wasn’t about to subside on Wednesday.

The show started with Catrina and Fenix backstage, the boss saying that she wished she’d never left Fenix’s side so that they could’ve ruled together. The two then kissed, but Catrina then said that Fenix would die at the hands of Mil Muertes—and that she would then bring him back to life.

Trios Championship Match: Ivelisse, Son of Havoc & Angelico vs. Disciples of Death (c)

The challengers for the Lucha Underground Trios titles started off with the upper hand as they jumped Catrina’s men right out of the gate, but they took back the advantage when Ivelisse got hit in the back with a springboard dropkick. The Disciples of Death then stayed in control until Ivelisse was able to hit Son of Havoc with the hot tag.

Havoc came in to hit a big double DDT and really take over the action, especially once he got Angelico involved as well and the two high flyers went on the attack. The Disciples of Death, with some antics from Catrina to distract the ref, tried to switch men in the match to steal a pin, but Angelico kicked out and then hit the Fall of the Angel into a Shooting Star Press from Havoc. That was good enough for three, making Ivelisse, Havoc, and Angelico the new Lucha Underground Trios champs.

This match felt quicker than it probably was and/or should’ve been, but I pop every time for the new champs—they’re extremely good at what they do.

Winners: Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, Angelico

We were backstage next with Rey Mysterio and Dragon Azteca where Rey said that the latter’s training was complete and gave Azteca an invitation to Aztec Warfare next week. Rey also announced that he will be there as well. About damn time!

Bull Rope Match, Chavo Guerrero vs. Texano

Chavo tried to start the match immediately by getting The Crew to interfere, but they instead bailed on him. Texano then pulled his opponent in by the rope and began to beat him down in a big way. The fight then went to the outside where Texano continued to stay in control—until Chavo got back into the ring and pulled Texano into the ring post by the rope.

Guerrero then went back outside and began to whip Texano with the rope and then tossed him into the rows of wooden chairs. He then pulled Texano back in the ring and began choking him with the rope. When Chavo got on his opponent’s back, though, Texano countered with an Electric Chair Slam. After some innovative offense with the Bull Rope, Texano was able to finally put away Chavo and give him some lashes with the rope for his trouble.

Winner: Texano

Back in the locker room, Mil Muertes punished the Disciples of Death for losing. Catrina then showed up and called Mil off and leading him to the ring.

We then got a scene with Dario Cueto and Black Lotus as the former El Jefe of The Temple said that his brother, Matanza, was ready and that they would go take back ā€œhisā€ Temple. We then got the first look at Matanza, who was Oh-My-Dear-Lord-He-Is-Terrifying levels of awesome.

Lucha Underground Championship Match: Fenix vs. Mil Muertes (c)

This match started off wonderfully and predictably as a battle between the speed and high-flying of Fenix and the power of Mil Muertes as the two went back-and-forth. Though the challenger kept getting his offense in, Mil was relentless as he tried to rip the mask off of Fenix and stopped a dive to the outside by delivering a chair shot to the head that busted Fenix open.

The champion then continued to beat down Fenix over and over again in typically brutal fashion—but the challenger only fought back harder and harder as he even opened the mask of Mil Muertes. After Mil looked like he had the Flatliner all set up to end Fenix after hitting the challenger with a neckbreaker from the top rope, though, Fenix capped off an unreal match by countering into a bridging roll-up that kept Mil Muertes down. That’s right; Life wins over Death and Fenix is the new Lucha Underground Champion.

Winner and NEW Lucha Underground Champion: Fenix

However, the celebration was disrupted by Catrina who announced that Aztec Warfare wouldn’t be for the No. 1 Contender spot, but would instead be for the title. To further dampen the mood, she said that Fenix would enter No. 1 and Mil Muertes at No. 20. Oh man, this is going to be good.
