NFL Rumors: Chris Johnson visiting with Miami Dolphins
After losing out on C.J. Anderson, the Miami Dolphins are bringing in Chris Johnson for a visit.
The Miami Dolphins went into this offseason by aggressively searching for a new running back. They let incumbent starter Lamar Miller hit free agency after failing to sign him. After signing Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson to an offer sheet, planning on exploiting the Broncos for leaving him without a tender that required a draft pick, Denver matched their offer sheet. This has caused Miami to quickly move to Plan C: Chris Johnson.
Johnson wound up having a rebound year with the Arizona Cardinals in 2015. He had 814 rushing yards with 3 rushing touchdowns in 11 games while averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Johnson could be an intriguing place holder until the Dolphins find a younger running back — perhaps 2015 rookie Jay Ajayi — to start. He turns 31 years old in September, so that likely limits him to a one or two-year deal at best. Matt Forte (who turns 31 years old in December) could only muster a two-year deal and he has a better recent resume than Johnson.
