Colts to hold press conference Friday with Peyton Manning

The Indianapolis Colts will hold a press conference Friday that will include one of the best players in franchise history, former quarterback Peyton Manning.

When the history books are written about each NFL franchise, there may not be a better player in the history of the Indianapolis Colts organization (including their time in Baltimore) than quarterback Peyton Manning. For 13 seasons, Manning was the man under center, leading the team to two Super Bowl appearances (with a win in Super Bowl XLI).

His career with the Colts came to an end after he missed the entire 2011 season while recovering from neck surgery. Owner Jim Irsay made the hard decision to let Manning go, being adamant that there were no hard feelings between both sides.

Now that Manning has officially retired from the NFL (after four seasons and another Super Bowl title with the Denver Broncos), Manning will be back in the city he called home for a press conference announced by the Colts:

The Colts would not go into detail about the presser’s details, though Irsay has said in the past that the team would likely retire Manning’s number once his playing days in the NFL were officially over.

Manning’s departure following the 2011 season allowed the Colts to draft quarterback Andrew Luck with the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. While Luck has been successful statistically in his first four years in the league, he will be measured by the accomplishments of the man before him…which may be some difficult shoes to fill.
