NCAA Tournament 2016: Iona vs Iowa State live scoring tracker
A look at the live scoring results from the NCAA Tournament First Round game between Iona and Iowa State.
The second Midwest game in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday will feature the Iona Gaels and the Iowa State Cyclones. The winner of this game will face the winner of No. 5 Purdue vs. No. 12 Arkansas Little-Rock on Saturday.
Iona is coming off a 22-10 season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They rattled off eight straight wins, including sweeping their conference tournament to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. They beat at-large favorite Monmouth in the conference tournament finals.
The Gaels are led by senior guard AJ English who is among the best scorers in the nation. He put up 22.4 PPG during the regular season and is coming off a hot MAAC Tournament performance. He most notably put up 29 points vs Siena on Mar. 6.
Iowa State is coming off a 21-11 season in the Big 12 Conference. They are coming off back to back losses to No. 1 overall seed Kansas and to Oklahoma in the first round of the conference tournament.
For a few years, the Cyclones have been led by senior Georges Niang who has carried them to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. He has put up nearly 20 PPG on 54-percent shooting. Junior guard Monte Morris will also be expected to handle the distributing throughout this game.
