NCAA Tournament 2016: Stony Brook vs Kentucky live scoring tracker
A look at the live scoring results from the NCAA Tournament First Round game between Stony Brook and Kentucky.
A little bit under-seeded, the Kentucky Wildcats tied for the regular season SEC title and beat Texas A&M in the conference tournament championship, but still earned a No. 3 to the Aggies’ No. 4 seed. That should add a little fuel to the John Calipari fire as his Wildcats are more talented than a majority of the field anyway.
Stud freshman Jamal Murray is one of the least talked about stars in college basketball today, averaging 20.1 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from deep. Tyler Ulis might be the best point guard in the nation, putting up 17.2 points and 7.2 assists per game. This team is a dangerous threat to make a run.
Not having beaten a single team that has made this year’s NCAA Tournament field, the Stony Brook Seawolves still have a lot to prove, hence why they’ve been given a No. 13 seed in a tough draw with Kentucky. After falling to 4-4 at the start of the year, the Seawolves improved to 21-4 and went on to win the American East regular season and tournament titles.
This team isn’t necessarily a scoring machine, but it does have some scorers. Jameel Warney is a threat in the post, averaging a team-high 19.8 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game while Carson Puriefoy can absolutely fill it up from long-range. Puriefoy is averaging 15.1 points while making over 40 percent of his threes.
