Updated 2016 March Madness Bracket after North Carolina advances
A look at the updated 2016 March Madness Bracket after North Carolina got past Florida Gulf Coast
The North Carolina Tar Heels came into March Madness as one of the clear-cut favorites to win it all in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. However, they found themselves in much more of a battle in their First Round matchup against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles after the Tar Heels seemed to get a bit complacent midway through the first half.
North Carolina allowed FGCU to climb back into the game in the first half and the Tar Heels led only by one point at halftime. They were getting beat on the glass and were playing lackadaisical defense in the worst way, allowing a far inferior team in FGCU to hang around and keep the first 1-16 matchup upset in mind.
The Tar Heels came out of halftime, though, and proved that wasn’t going to be a possibility. They went on an 18-5 run to start the second half and even pushed the lead to upwards of 20 points at one point. They settled down and didn’t make things too ugly, but ultimately held on to comfortably avoid the upset and advance to the Second Round in March Madness.
After the North Carolina win, let’s take a look at the updated 2016 March Madness Bracket to see where things stand and what matchups are on the horizon in the Second Round.
The Tar Heels’ next opponent has yet to be determined, but they’ll have to be better for 40 minutes if they want to advance past a better team than Florida Gulf Coast.
