Makai Mason and Yale have Baylor on the ropes at halftime of their 2016 NCAA Tournament matchup
The Baylor Bears when they’ve been at their best this season have been one of the best teams in all of college basketball. Potential isn’t enough in the NCAA Tournament, though, and sophomore guard Makai Mason and his Yale Bulldogs certainly gave Baylor that message in the first half of their First Round matchup on Thursday afternoon.
Mason came out firing for the Ivy League Champion Bulldogs in the first half and looking to make himself an early candidate for star of March Madness. He finished the first half with 17 points on 7-12 shooting from the field to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Off the dribble, on the break, and simply spotting up to shoot, the Bears couldn’t find an answer for Mason.
Moreover, a lengthy Baylor team had real trouble on the boards as Yale was able to get into quality position and do the dirty work on the inside to really make an impact on the game. Between Makai Mason and the rebounding, the Bulldogs went into the locker room for halftime up 39-34 on Baylor, needing only 20 more minutes of the same for the first major upset of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
If Mason and Justin Sears can play like they did in the first half for Yale, that upset could very well be in the cards.
