White Sox players, president have fiery meeting after Adam LaRoche retirement
By Jason Parker
Several members of the Chicago White Sox, including pitcher Chris Sale, are not happy with the way team president Kenny Williams handled the situation with Adam LaRoche.
It’s a story that has sparked debate not just in the sports world, but across the country: Adam LaRoche, an 11-year veteran of Major League Baseball, announced he would be stepping away from the game. The reason was a reported meeting with Chicago White Sox president Kenny Williams in which LaRoche was told not to have his 14-year old son hanging around in the team’s locker room and facilities so much.
Apparently, LaRoche’s soon-to-be former teammates have his back and are furious over the way things were handled. They are so mad that a meeting between the team and Williams got very fiery and almost reached the point of a team-wide boycott:
While the situation is still fluid, some reports also have said that Williams took the blame for some players and coaches who were bothered by the presence of LaRoche’s kid in the facilities. Whether that is true or not has yet to be seen, but you can bet this is a situation that will stick around for a while.
It isn’t the first time a MLB team has dealt with an issue regarding the players’ kids in the locker room. Boston Red Sox players and management got into a similar debate during their 2013 World Series-winning season.
