Yale’s Makai Mason crosses up Baylor’s Al Freeman, nails stepback (Video)

Yale point guard Makai Mason crossed up Baylor’s Al Freeman before drilling a stepback jumper

Given the length and athleticism of the Baylor Bears, there were plenty of fans that stayed away from picking the No. 12 Yale Bulldogs to upset the No. 5 seed Bears in the First Round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. However, Yale point guard Makai Mason came out right from the opening tip trying to prove that the Bulldogs were very much alive in this matchup.

Mason started off the game on fire, making plays to keep pace with Baylor to start the game. However, arguably his most impressive play came at the top of the key as he took the ball up the floor, sized up Baylor guard Al Freeman, and then proceeded to absolutely eviscerate his matchup with a series of crossovers before drilling a stepback jumper for emphasis:

Makai Mason started off the game against Baylor by scoring 13 of the Bulldogs’ first 26 points while shooting 6-9 from the field. As you can see on this play, though, he was doing so with a little bit of flair as well.

Mason led Yale in scoring in his second year with the program, averaging 15.8 points and 3.7 assists per game on the year. Seeing him be able to dice up an athletic team like Baylor with such ease makes it pretty easy to see how he was able to do that and could have an upset brewing in the West Region.
