West Virginia is on upset alert in March Madness as they trail No. 14 seed Stephen F. Austin at halftime
The West Virginia Mountaineers when they were at their best during the college basketball regular season looked like a team that could be a dark horse to win a national championship come tournament time. However, the great thing about March Madness is that you have to be at your best or close to it on every night, a lesson Bob Huggins and West Virginia are being taught by the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks.
While you see many upsets start brewing early in games like this between the No. 3 and No. 14 seeds in the manner that the lower seed jumps out to an early lead and tries to hang on, this has been a far different case. West Virginia actually secured the lead early, but a gambling and ferocious defense from Stephen F. Austin really shut the Mountaineers down throughout the first half and allowed them to get back into the game and ultimately take a three-point lead into halftime.
Not only did the Lumberjacks force 13 turnovers in the first half to put West Virginia on upset alert in March Madness, but strong performances offensively from Thomas Walkup, Clide Geffrard Jr. and Demetrious Floyd all helped put Stephen F. Austin in this position.
In the Month-Year of 3:16, it’s only fitting that a school named Steve Austin would have an upset brewing in March Madness. If you thought they were a joke, you can stop laughing now.
