A look at the live scoring results from the NCAA Tournament First Round game between Michigan and Notre Dame.
After winning the final First Four matchup game, the Michigan Wolverines can now breathe easy that they’re officially in the NCAA Tournament field, setting up a showdown with Notre Dame on Friday. The Wolverines rely heavily on the three-pointer, but will need to prove to be more than just a streaky team in order to pull off a couple upsets in the coming week.
Michigan has been playing without star guard Caris LeVert for the past few months and that has taken a toll on the team, as a whole. Derrick Walton Jr. has done his best job of leading the team and he did just well enough to sneak the Wolverines into the tournament as the Big Ten’s lowest-seeded team. Walton’s averaging 11.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish seemed to be gifted with the No. 6 seed in the East Region after a 21-11 season, especially after finishing a dismal 3-4 on the year. That doesn’t take away from how dangerous this team can really be as the Irish have hung with and taken down Duke, North Carolina and Louisville this year.
Notre Dame has one of the most balanced scoring attacks when it comes to starters in the entire nation. Demetrius Jackson leads the way with 15.5 points and 4.8 assists per game while big man Zach Auguste puts up 14.4 points and 10.8 rebounds while shooting 55 percent from the field. Keep an eye on Steve Vasturia, Bonzie Colson and V.J. Beachem as well.
