A look at the live scoring results from the NCAA Tournament First Round game between Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.
At the start of the season, it looked like the Pittsburgh Panthers could be one of college basketball’s surprise teams. The Panthers are always a contender for the tournament, but starting 14-1 after two ACC games, Pittsburgh looked like a title contender. However, the Panthers finished the year with a 7-8 mark in the final 15 games.
This team has a solid work ethic and the team plays together, making it dangerous in the tournament. Earning just a No. 10 seed, the Panthers know that they’ve been somewhat disrespected, but can only blame themselves for the way they finished the season. Michael Young, 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, and Jamel Artis, 14.4 points and 4.8 rebounds, will look to engineer an upset in round one.
The Wisconsin Badgers had one of the more up-and-down seasons of any team in the field and it all began with a sluggish start to the year, followed by veteran head coach Bo Ryan stepping down mid-season. The Badgers found a way to go from 9-9 to 20-12 to finish the season. Going from national runner-up to out of the tournament was not an option for this team.
Nigel Hayes has been a force and nightmare for opponents all season long. The Badgers’ junior forward is averaging 16.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and can make a mid-range shot like a shooting guard. Keep an eye on Ethan Happ, too. The freshman big man was the conference’s top newcomer of the year, averaging 12.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
