Recently retired star quarterback Peyton Manning will return to Indianapolis on Friday to have a press conference honoring the future Hall of Famer.
On Thursday, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay had a special announcement regarding former star quarterback Peyton Manning and his football team coming on Friday. Manning spent his first 14 years in the NFL with the Colts organization before spending his last four professional seasons with the Denver Broncos. Manning retired the Monday before 2016 NFL free agency.
Irsay had reportedly wanted to do something special to honor its best football player in Indianapolis history since the 2015 AFC Championship Game. Since Manning called it a career as a member of the Broncos, naturally Irsay wanted to hold his own special press conference for Manning “to honor a player that shaped the franchise like no other.”
Manning did at his retirement press conference earlier this month did give gratitude to the Colts organization and the City of Indianapolis for 14 great years. In his 13 years as the starting quarterback for the Colts (1998-2010), Manning was an All-Pro seven times, led the Colts to eight AFC Championship Games, and set dozens of franchise and NFL passing records.
Many have speculated that not only will Manning become a Colts Ring of Honor member at Friday’s press conference at Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center in Indianapolis, but Irsay may end up retiring Manning’s No. 18 jersey. The Colts have 11 members in their Ring of Honor, but Manning has the chance to be the first Colt to have his jersey number retired by the organization.
