Ricky Rubio has a perfect NCAA Tournament bracket after day one (Photo)
Ricky Rubio is still alive in his pool thanks to his perfect Day 1 March Madness bracket.
March Madness is in full effect, as yesterday aired various games from around the country. Some were very exciting, others, not so much. More close games are expected, but that’s not all that will be going on. The brackets for the NCAA Tournament have become an obsession to many. Fans are looking for the perfect bracket, and some are disappointed when they lose perfection after the first day. It is very hard to keep on rolling when upsets start flying.
According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, about 13 million brackets were submitted to ESPN.com. After yesterday, 14,525 brackets are still perfect. That is a huge decrease in the number of brackets. The NCAA Tournament is unpredictable, but some appear to know what they are doing, like Ricky Rubio. The point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves is a perfect 16/16 in his March Madness bracket.
It takes a lot of skill (or dumb luck) to get even 16 games right, so major props to Rubio for making it this far. The 25-year old Spanish ballplayer was drafted fifth overall in the 2009 NBA draft by the Timberwolves. Before he made it into the league, he played for two Spanish teams, becoming one of the best Spanish PGs there. Rubio has taken off in the NBA, averaging 8.3 assists per game. This year, he is helping mentor younger players on the team like Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. Maybe he could teach them a thing or two about their brackets.
We will see how far Rubio goes, seeing that he has UNC winning the whole thing. If he continues to advance, he will be known as a wicked ballhandler and a March Madness guru.
