Sprint Cup: Auto Club 400 2016 qualifying results

Here are the complete qualifying results for the 2016 Auto Club 400 at Fontana.

After four weeks of racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, there have been four different drivers that have won races this season, which means a quarter of the field for the Chase is already set. With spots in the Chase and chances to compete for a Sprint Cup Championship already flying off the board, the sense of urgency is picking up with drivers as they get ready for the 2016 Auto Club 400 at Fontana on Sunday.

In the first round of qualifying on Sunday, Brad Keselowski, the defending winner of the Auto Club 400, set a track record and was clearly faster than everyone else on the track. Rookie Chase Elliott wasn’t quite as fast as Keselowski in the first round, but he put on another strong showing for a rookie, as he was the second fastest on the track, ahead of last week’s winner, Kevin Harvick.

As fate would have it, after Keselowski set a track record in the first round, Denny Hamlin would set the new track record in the second round and would jump to the top for qualifying, while Keselowski wouldn’t qualify for the final round of qualifying.

In the final round, it was Austin Dillon, who flew from out of nowhere to edge out Harvick by three-one-hundredths of a second to win the 2016 Auto Club 400 pole.
