Updated 2016 March Madness Bracket after Syracuse upsets Dayton

A look at the updated 2016 March Madness Bracket after Syracuse upset Dayton in the First Round on Friday

After Selection Sunday, there were plenty of college basketball fans crying that the Syracuse Orange didn’t deserve a spot in March Madness after an admittedly lackluster season. Whether that’s the case or not, they came out in the First Round of March Madness on Friday and proved that they are—at the very least—more than capable of holding their own in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

Despite being the No. 10 seed and matching up with a talented No. 7 seed in the Dayton Flyers, the Orange played the higher-seeded Flyers close for the first half and seemed ready to compete with Tyler Roberson coming up big and Malachi Richardson doing the same.

However, when both teams came out of the locker room for the second half, Jim Boeheim’s group of young men proved that they could do more than just compete as they unleashed total domination on Dayton. They hit them right in the mouth early and only seemed to further increase their lead as time wound off the clock. When the final buzzer sounded, it was an upset in emphatic fashion for the Orange to the tune of a 70-51 victory.

Now that Syracuse has knocked off Dayton, let’s take a look at the updated 2016 March Madness Bracket to see where things stand after this first Friday game.

The Orange will now await the winner of the Michigan State-Middle Tennessee State contest later on Friday afternoon to see who they’ll face in the Second Round.
