Women’s March Madness bracket 2016: Updated bracket after First Round Friday

A look at the updated 2016 Women’s March Madness bracket after Friday’s First Round games

The first day of women’s March Madness is in the books after Friday’s slate of 16 First Round games. Though the No. 1 overall seed in NCAA Women’s Tournament in the UConn Huskies weren’t in action on Friday to kick off women’s March Madness, there was still plenty of high quality basketball on display and even a big upset already going in the books.

That big upset came with the No. 12 Albany Great Danes ousting the No. 5 Florida Gators in the Sioux Falls Region by a score of 61-59. The Great Danes actually trailed by 15 points at halftime, but use a huge fourth-quarter run behind 28 points, eight rebounds, and five steals from junior guard Imani Tate to come back and cause the first major upset in the First Round of women’s March Madness.

There were other upsets as well, but those only came in the 8-9 and 7-10 matchups, meaning they were far less substantial than what Albany was able to do. However, the higher seeds like the No. 1 Baylor Bears and No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks had no problem in advancing on Friday and should be fresh and ready to continue their paths to the Final Four.

After Friday’s slate of First Round games in women’s March Madness action, let’s take a look at the updated bracket to see what matchups are in store for everyone in the second round as of now.
