Austin Dillon pulls off incredible last turn pass (Video)
Kyle Busch was looking like he was cruising into XFINITY Series racing history by winning the Treatmyclot.com race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California on Saturday. It would’ve been his fourth consecutive series race win.
Luck and Austin Dillon had other ideas.
Busch had dominated most of the race, and was cruising to victory until one of his teammates ran out of gas, casuing Busch to go into full-conservation mode with a few laps to go.
To compound that issue he blew a tire on the final lap. Being five seconds ahead of second-place Dillon, he tried to finish the race dragging his front quarter panel on a completely flat tire. This opened a window for Dillon to make a dramatic pas in the final turn.
Dillon, travelling at full tilt, made a move around Busch on the outside of turn four. Busch, as expected, made a move to wreck him at the last second, but Dillon’s #2 squeezed by to take the checkered flag.
“He tried to screw us there at the end. It didn’t work out for him, did it? Man, I didn’t think we had the car to do that — and we didn’t,”
. “But we did what we needed to do, and that was win the race.”
The final lap, or last few hundred yards, was the only lead he held all race — but it counted the most. This counts as his seventh XFINITY series victory.
Busch scraped home in second, followed by Darrell Wallace Jr., Suarez and Elliott Sadler.
This adds to an already great weekend in California for Austin Dillon. He is sitting on the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup Race. He’s hoping if he wins it isn’t as dramatic as today’s victory.
