Grayson Allen looks like he tripped up Yale point guard Makai Mason in the first half of their Second Round matchup
The Duke Blue Devils jumped all over the Yale Bulldogs in the first half of their Second Round March Madness matchup on Saturday afternoon, taking it to them in the worst way as they amassed a 27-point lead at one point. However, before they started pulling away behind a huge first half from Grayson Allen, Allen appeared to get back to his old, troubling way so intentionally tripping opponents.
With Duke up 6-2 very early in the game, Yale point guard Makai Mason tried to drive down the right side of the lane. However, Allen was out defending on that wing and, instead of fully hedging to stop Mason, he appears to stick his foot out and send the Yale point guard tumbling to the ground:
If this were 99 percent of the players in college basketball, we’d see this play and think it was just a freak accident. But given that Allen has done this twice already in the regular season—once against Louisville and once against Florida State—and with how quickly he pulls his foot back after the play, this doesn’t appear to be an accident in any regard. Once you start tripping people intentionally on the basketball court, you lose the benefit of the doubt.
Perhaps the refs should institute a “keep all hands and feet inside the ride during the game” speech before every Duke game, because apparently Grayson Allen needs to hear that.
