NFL Draft Rumors: Titans want king’s ransom for No. 1 pick
By Josh Hill
The Titans are letting you know they need to fleece you in order to part with the No. 1 pick in the draft.
The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and the Tennessee Titans are holding onto the No. 1 pick like the future of the franchise depends on it. While there isn’t a player that will instantly turn them around this year at the top of the class, there are a handful of potential franchise stars that could help Tennessee hit it out of the park for a second year.
While the jury is still out on Marcus Mariota, pairing his selection with that of Jalen Ramsey or Laremy Tunsil could further lay the foundation for the future in Tennessee. That being said, the Titans have made it known that they’re not attached at the hip to the top pick, but they’ll need to fleece the hell out of you in order to part with it.
Titans GM Jon Robinson said Saturday that it would take a ‘substantial amount’ to get the Titans to trade the No. 1 pick in the draft, likening it to a king’s ransom.
"“There is a group of players that are at the top of the draft, that, you don’t want to move back too far cause you can miss out on one of those guys, and if you do move back that far you want to make sure that you have a king’s ransom, for lack of a better term, to move that far. I would say that for us to move out of that pick, it’s going to take a substantial amount of picks to do that.”"
Tennessee wants Jalen Ramsey, but they might not feel comfortable using the first pick on him when they might be able to trade down with the Browns or Cowboys and get something extra as well. The problem with trading down is you surrender yourself to the fact that someone can trade ahead of you to get the guy you want, which is very possible with Ramsey.
If the Titans do trade the first pick, they’re not going to accept anything less than a stellar deal — and even that might not be enough.
