A look at the updated 2016 March Madness Bracket after Virginia defeated Butler to go to the Sweet 16
There was some debate entering March Madness as to whether or not the Virginia Cavaliers were deserving of a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, after their First Round dominance over the Hampton Pirates and then surviving on Saturday in the Second Round of March Madness against a Butler Bulldogs team that came out throwing haymakers, it’s hard to argue with the fact that they’re right where they need to be.
The Bulldogs made things ugly for the Cavaliers in the first half and the No. 9 seed actually took a two-point lead into halftime. However, it was in the second half where the Bulldogs just couldn’t fully contain the likes of ACC Player of the Year Malcolm Brogdon and Anthony Gill for 20 more minutes.
That’s not to say that Butler went down without a fight in the final 20 minutes, particularly with the effort they put forth in the final minutes of the game—especially the performance of Roosevelt Jones over that stretch. They never let the Cavaliers breathe, but that Virginia was able to withstand that and still execute enough to advance to the Sweet 16 speaks a ton about their poise and how ready they are for March Madness.
After the win over Butler in the Second Round to go through to the Sweet 16 for Virginia, let’s take a look at the updated 2016 March Madness Bracket to see what could like ahead for the Cavaliers.

Virginia’s region is incredibly intriguing right now given all of the upsets in the Midwest. Their toughest test in the Midwest Region may well come in the Sweet 16 as they’ll be up against the Iowa State Cyclones.
