Goalie scores amazing goal in WHL game (Video)

A Western Hockey League game between the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Medicine Hat Tigers saw a rare goalie goal.
Stuart Skinner scored an empty net goal that helped his Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League go up 8-3 over the Medicine Hat Tigers. Not a very exciting sounding goal until you learn that Skinner is a goalie. It is very rare for netminders to score, so Skinner relished in his first goal in Junior hockey despite the lopsided score. From behind his own net, Skinner launches the puck up the ice simply looking to clear it out of his zone, put it has enough power on it to got straight down the middle of the ice and into the empty cage, much to the excitement of the announcers.
Now you may be wondering why the Tigers would even pull their goalie down by four, and that has to do with the time of year. Much like the NHL season, the WHL season is nearing its end and Medicine Hat is fighting for their playoff lives. There is only one playoff spot left up for grabs, and this was the Tigers’ second last game of the season. They came into the game only two points behind the Edmonton Oil Kings for that playoff spot.
With the win, the Hurricanes clinched the Central Division and Skinner added 38 saves to go along with his goal.
The Tigers have one last shot to keep their playoff hopes alive as they face Lethbridge again later on Saturday.
