Report: Pitt’s Jamie Dixon considering TCU head coaching job
By Jack Crosby
Jamie Dixon might be out at Pitt and he already has a new home in mind, apparently
The Pittsburgh Panthers were recently ousted in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament by the Wisconsin Badgers, and with that, talk has already started to heat up that head coach Jamie Dixon’s time with the program could be up. Well, it might indeed be, and apparently there is a new home potentially already lined up.
According to a report from Gary Parrish over at CBS Sports, the TCU Horned Frogs are ready to offer Dixon their head coaching job, which was vacated last week when they fired Trent Johnson. And if anyone believed that money could be a problem, Parrish is reporting that TCU will make sure that Dixon makes at least what he’s making at Pitt now, if not more.
Of course, this makes sense for a variety of reasons.
To start with, Dixon is a TCU alum and played there from 1984-87. When you have someone with a high profile like Dixon, it makes sense for TCU to at least give him a reason to come home, even if that means ponying up a lot of money to get him to do so.
And secondly, quite frankly, Dixon may have done all that he could do in Pittsburgh and it might be time to leave that headache and move on. He’s made 11 NCAA Tournaments in the 13 seasons that he’s been there. They’ve never really made any serious noise despite getting a lot of regular season hype, heading to the Sweet 16 just twice.
Finally, let’s just be honest here — the ACC isn’t the easiest conference to coach in nowadays. If he can make just as much money in the Big 12 with his school, then that might be the best move.
During his time at Pitt as the head coach, Dixon has compiled a record of 328-123.
