The Dallas Cowboys have interest in Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott.
The NFL Draft is right around the corner, which means rumors are going to start flaring up connecting notable college players to big name franchises. One of the under-the-radar names that you don’t think of until he’s mentioned is Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott.
Once a Heisman hopeful, Prescott has fallen off a bit since he took Mississippi State to the top of the polls but that doesn’t mean he’s going unnoticed by NFL teams. He’s not an instant starter and isn’t a name being tossed around the top of the draft order, but there are teams in need of a quarterback like Prescott who could take a chance on him in on the second or third day.
According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, the Dallas Cowboys have a meeting with Dak Prescott which means there might be interest in drafting him.
Of course, the meeting might not directly indicate an interest in drafting Prescott, but the dots aren’t hard to connect. The Cowboys need a quarterback to backup Tony Romo and one that could eventually develop into a quarterback for the future. They are rumored to be interested in the Jared Goff’s of the world but won’t be using the No. 4 overall pick on a quarterback.
That’s what makes supposed interest in Dak so fascinating because it makes sense. He’s a young, wild card quarterback who doesn’t need to come in right away and be a franchise savior. He’s be more of a Jimmy Garoppolo in that he’s there if Dallas needs him but won’t be called upon as long as Romo — and even a No. 2 quarterback — is healthy.
Prescott with the Cowboys fits, but it doesn’t mean it will happen. To counter, the Cowboys also have a meeting with Connor Cook from Michigan State, which means they might just be doing due diligence on guys they think might be able to backup Romo i the years to come.
