The Notre Dame Fighting Irish just made it past Stephen F. Austin thanks to a wild Rex Pflueger tip-in
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks were battling from the opening tip in the Second Round of March Madness, so of course it would come down to one final possession. However, no one could have predicted how things actually played out or that the hero would be little-used Notre Dame guard Rex Pflueger.
With the ball and trailing by one point against Stephen F. Austin, Notre Dame drove to the rim and tried to make a couple of shots. The first missed, as did the putback attempt. However, that opened up the door for Fighting Irish guard Rex Pflueger to get a hand on the ball, put it off the backboard, and watch it fall through the net with just over a second left on the clock to give Notre Dame the lead:
That’s one of the craziest tips that I’ve ever seen. Pflueger had almost zero control on that tip-in attempt and was in there among the big bodies despite not being a big man himself at 6-6. However, the freshman who averaged just over two points per game on the season came up in the biggest moment.
As the Lumberjacks’ attempt at a full-court heave was no good, Pflueger’s tip pushed Notre Dame into the Sweet 16 in thrilling fashion. Though this was fun, you have to guess they’ll be looking to win a little more comfortably going forward.
