NFL Free Agency: 5 best fits for Ryan Fitzpatrick
By Jacob Yturri
No. 5 San Fransisco 49ers
Ever since Chip Kelly became an NFL head coach, Kelly has insisted that his offense does not need a mobile quarterback- instead it needs a quick throwing, ball distributor. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a quick release possessing quarterback that is experienced in spread offense concepts. He just could be the answer to Chip Kelly’s prayers.
Back when Ryan Fitzpatrick was the Buffalo Bills starting quarterback, his head coach was Chan Gailey. It was here that Gailey tutored Fitzpatrick on spread offenses and worked to create a team passed around short, quick passes, as Fitzpatrick had a weaker than average arm.
Last season, Gailey was hired as the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator. Fitzpatrick soon thereafter signed with the Jets and the team quickly switched over the a spread-like offensive system that featured strong inside running and quick passes.
While Chip Kelly’s system would obviously differ, it would have to be a positive that Fitzpatrick has been around similar passing concepts and terminology that Chip Kelly now uses in San Fransisco.
If Colin Kaepernick is indeed traded off, look for the San Fransisco 49ers to bring in Ryan Fitzpatrick in for a contract talk.
