After another successful season with Stephen F. Austin State University, Brad Underwood is going to a new place to call home

Stephen F. Austin State University’s chance at glory may have ended this past Sunday, but they made a lasting moment in the NCAA Tournament. The team had support of many outsiders, thanks in large part to the “Stone Cold” Steve Austin GIFs that were associated with them. Coach Brad Underwood did a fantastic job this season, and it seems he is getting rewarded for it.

According to CBS Sports, Underwood has reportedly agreed to become the next head coach of Oklahoma State. He would replace Travis Ford, who was fired last Friday after eight seasons at the school.

While Stephen F. Austin lost to Notre Dame in the Round of 32, it was Underwood’s third consecutive season where the team reached the NCAA Tournament. In three seasons with the team, Underwood coached Stephen F. Austin to an impressive 89-14 record.  This year the team was 28-6, while they were 18-0 in the Southland Conference. Along with with trips to the NCAA Tournament, Underwood was a three-time Southland Coach of the Year.

The hiring is proof that hard work can pay off. Stony Brook’s Steve Pikiell can understand that. After leading his team to their first NCAA Tournament in school history, Pikiell was hired by Rutgers University to coach them. In only three years, Underwood showed he could be an elite coach. It is unsure if his move to Oklahoma State can result in the same magic he pulled at Stephen F. Austin University, but I am sure he will try his best.

Brad Underwood and his team may have been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, but this is a big victory for him. Here’s hoping for some future Cinderella Magic in a new atmosphere.
