Donald Trump is setting his sights on attacking the Ricketts family, owners of the Chicago Cubs, as the 2016 Presidential campaign continues.
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last nine months, you know that Donald Trump says what is on his mind, not carrying what people think or if it is something said in a polished way. Trump has launched tirades against his fellow GOP presidential candidates while saying he is ready to go all in on the likely Democratic Party nominee, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
For the moment, Donald Trump is turning his attention to the world of sports for his latest attacks. The targets? Members of the Ricketts family, who own the Chicago Cubs and have made it clear they aren’t fans of Trump’s run for the White House. During a recent interview with the editorial board of the Washington Post, Trump said he’s got plenty of things he could spill about the owners of the team that used to be known as the “Lovable Losers”:
"“…I’ll start spending on them. I’ll start taking ads telling them all what a rotten job they’re doing with the Chicago Cubs. I mean, they are spending on me. I mean, so am I allowed to say that? I’ll start doing ads about their baseball team.”"
The Ricketts family has donated to many conservative PAC’s in the 2016 election cycle, so they tend to be on the same side of the spectrum as the current Republican Party frontrunner. In February, members of the family donated over $3 million to one PAC that has focused on keeping Trump from winning the GOP bid.
Regardless of your political affiliation, it would be interesting to see what Trump would show from a team who won 97 games last season and is one of the favorite to win the first World Series for the franchise since 1908 to prove they are not being run properly.
